Who we are

Mission Statement

To foster and establish a firm foundation in Celtic dance. To inspire a love of movement and dance as a method of self expression and exercise

Our Vision

A school built on the principles of inclusion, sportsmanship, creativity, and team spirit through a community love of Celtic dance.

Come Dance With Us!

Highland and Step dance in the heart of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

Discover a Love of Dance at Celtic Element

Founded in 2021 by Emily Barrett and Elizabeth Hughes, Celtic Element School of Dance aims to provide a supportive environment where dancers of all ages and abilities can discover a true love of dance and movement. While our school is competitive, it is a family first. We provide a space for dancers to be themselves.

About Us

Elizabeth Hughes

Miss Elizabeth is the Co-Owner of Celtic Element School of Dance and  teaches our competitive youth highland and Adult highland classes.

A communication manager at a local non-profit, Elizabeth loves empowering her students with a focus on technique and positive mindset. Elizabeth has over 25 years experience in highland dance, is a Member of the British Association of Teachers of Dance and member of ScotDance Nova Scotia. Elizabeth has a BAHon in Theatre and loves to build stories through movement, expression, and costume.

Some of her favourite dance memories are being a highland dancer at Pier 21 welcoming the cruise ships at the Halifax port terminal; and competing and making new dance friends at Highland games across North America.

Outside of dance, Elizabeth loves to spend time with her family and her dog, Shelby.

Emily Barrett

Miss Emily is the Co-Owner of Celtic Element School of Dance and teaches our competitive youth step and adult step classes.

An early childhood educator at a local child care center, Emily loves working with children in any form. She works hard teaching her dancers technique and the confidence needed to step onto stage and shine. With over 30 years of dance experience and over 20 years of step dance experience, as well as being an Associate of the British Association of Teachers of Dance, Emily has the ability to help teach and create confident and award winning dancers. Some of her favourite dance memories are from when she danced in Walt Disney World as well as New York City. She has also competed around the Maritimes and won many special awards while doing so.

Outside of Dance, Emily enjoys spending time with her niece and nephew and relaxing at her family cottage on Grand Lake.

With over 16 years of diverse dance training and a lifelong passion for the art form, Cassidy brings a dynamic presence to our studio. She has been inspiring students at Celtic Element for the past two years, teaching step, and highland. Cassidy also has training in tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, and modern dance.

Before joining our team, she spent six years teaching adance in her community and also served as Dance Coordinator—an experience that deepened her skills in choreography, leadership, and mentorship. Cassidy Robicheau

Originally from Baie Sainte-Marie, Nova Scotia, Jessika proudly carries deep Acadian roots that have shaped her vibrant identity as both an artist and cultural ambassador.

With over 35 years of experience, Jessika is a passionate and versatile performer, educator, and cultural advocate. She began her formal training at George Brown College, where she studied dance intensively, and went on to Concordia University for Contempôrary dance in Montreal. Trained in a variety of styles—including ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, and step dancing—Jessika is a true triple threat. She strongly believes that ballet is the foundation of all dance, and emphasizes the importance of solid technique in every dancer's training.

Her professional journey includes performing with the renowned folklorique troupe Reel and Macadam, celebrating Acadian and Quebecois culture through traditional dance. She also toured extensively across Canada and the United States with the acclaimed musical production DRUM!, captivating audiences with her powerful stage presence.

Jessika has taught dance for over 20 years at  Cindy Comeau School of Dance, where she has inspired generations of young dancers with her enthusiasm and dedication. She especially loves teaching children and sharing her passion for dance with her nieces, who are proudly continuing the family’s dance legacy.

Outside of the dance world, Jessika works as agente de développement scolaire et communautaire for the CSAP, where she helps foster cultural pride and artistic expression among Acadian youth.

When she’s not working or dancing, Jessika treasures time spent with her family. In the summer months, she can often be found at motocross tracks every other weekend, cheering on and supporting her loved ones in another high-energy, adrenaline-filled world she loves to be part of.

Rhonda Barrett

Rhonda Barrett

Rhonda has been teaching and practising yoga in the Kripalu tradition for over 10 years with a background in dance and fitness.

She is a graduate of the 200 Hour Atlantic Yoga Teacher Training program, 15 hour Meditation and Pranayama Certification with Maureen Rae, a Level 2 Usui Reiki practitioner and was a certified personal training coach for over ten years.

She currently works in facilities management, caring for dementia patients, creating collages as a professional artist and owning and operating Canada's first gallery showing collage and assemblage exclusively - Cuts and Paste Gallery.

So, a meditative yoga practise has become important to Rhonda in helping to strike a balance, find strength as well as length and to find a deep breath in the chaos. It is her hope to also pass these benefits on to those who practise with her.

Registration has just begun for our summer classes! Join us for 10 weeks of fun!
