Primary Highland: Age 4-6 This half hour class focuses on the basic highland dances that are foundational to the genre. Dancers will learn Pas de Basques, Pas de Basques and Highcuts, and foundations of the Highland Fling, and the Sword Dance.
YOUTH
Beginner Highland: Dancers will learn the foundational movements of traditional Highland dance, including the Highland Fling, the Sword Dance, and the Seann Triubhas. Focus is placed on posture, precision, and rhythm while developing strength and stamina.
Beginner Ballet: Dancers will be introduced to the fundamental positions, movements, and techniques of classical ballet. They will develop strength, flexibility, and posture while exploring musicality and expressive movement. This class lays the groundwork for future ballet training through barre work, center exercises, and simple combinations across the floor.
Beginner Step Dance: Dancers will be introduced to the basic steps, rhythms, and musicality of Step Dance. They’ll explore how to create sounds with their feet and begin working those taps into music through fun and engaging patterns.
Intermediate Step Dance: Dancers with previous experience continue to refine their technique while learning full choreographies. This class introduces the variety within Step Dance, including styles such as jigs, reels, and strathspeys.
Advance Step Dance: Dancers build on their established skills with more intricate choreography and advanced movements. Emphasis is placed on clarity, musical interpretation, and performance quality across a range of Step Dance styles.
Yoga: Dancers will explore breath, balance, and body awareness through beginner-friendly yoga poses and mindful movement. This class encourages flexibility, focus, and relaxation while supporting overall strength and well-being in a calm, welcoming environment.
ADULT
No Experience & Low Impact Highland: Perfect for those new to dance or returning after a break, this class offers a relaxed, supportive atmosphere to get moving and have fun. Dancers will learn the basics of the Scottish Lilt and Village Maid —maybe even a bit of the Highland Fling—while building confidence and enjoying the joy of movement together.
Experienced Highland: This class is tailored to the dancers attending, with a focus on refining technique, expanding repertoire, and helping each dancer work toward their personal goals in Highland dance.
Beginner Ballet: A gentle introduction to classical ballet for adults. Dancers will learn foundational positions, technique, and movement vocabulary through barre work, center practice, and flowing combinations. No experience is required—just a willingness to move with grace and intention.
No Experience & Low Impact Step Dance: Designed for beginners, this class introduces the basic rhythms and steps of traditional Step Dance in a relaxed and encouraging environment. Dancers will explore strathspeys and jigs while building coordination and enjoying a shared sense of fun and community.
Yoga: Build core strength, flexibility, and body awareness to support your dance practice—or simply to feel better in your body. This class focuses on breath, movement, and injury prevention. Available by full term registration or punch card (register first, then email celticelementdance@gmail.com to arrange punch card use).
